Where We Are Now

Following a period of forced patience, we are thrilled to advise Bunbury Fringe will proceed in 2021.

2020 has presented the arts community with existential challenges that we all will address with creativity, dedication to our collective passions, and unwavering commitment to seeing the colour it brings flourish again. Of course, the way it all looks will be different. Our format will be progressively adjusted to adhere to the social distancing restrictions of the moment, and respond to the state of the world. However, as WA is home to innovative, experimental and thought provoking art, the committee is confident that not only will Bunbury Fringe will be delivered as promised, it will be even more exciting, inclusive and stimulating than our last.

This confidence has been further boosted by a financial commitment from TWA’s Regional Events Scheme, and the rolling out of the second in a three year agreement with Alcoa, again showing unwavering support for the community and the event.

Our Fringe Buddies will once more form a large part of the program - we presented over seventy activities in non-traditional spaces throughout the CBD in 2020, and we are now inviting local venues, businesses and artists to submit their proposals for 2021. This coming festival, more than any past, we are driven to activate our city with colour and fun, drawing people out of their homes and into the stores and spaces of local business owners and organisations.

Reinforcing the talent to be found here in WA, a number of regional artists have been communicating with Fringe as they begin to develop new works to be showcased in 2021. We anticipate this festival will shine a spotlight on the calibre of our homegrown performers, and we KNOW that this time of upheaval and uncertainty has already birthed beautiful, off-the-wall, deeply moving creative responses. Out of dark times spring light!

The dates for Bunbury Fringe 2021 will be January 21 to January 31. These dates fall slightly earlier than previous years to take in the school holidays, and we are already developing some brilliant things for the kids.

We cannot thank you enough for the support of Bunbury Fringe over the past four years - your dedication to us in that time means we are in the best possible position to ensure we’re there for you in 2021.
